Scissor skills learn to cut with hand placement

The is the resource you need for BOTH LEFT HAND AND RIGHT HAND students who are working on turning the paper while cutting shapes! Do your students have difficulty knowing where to place their hands while turning the paper-then you need visuals such as this! This resources includes high quality clipart with hand placement visuals (stars) for students to hold the paper on the stars while turning the paper. Each page also has a simple writing component where students trace letter boxes, then write the word in the box and then on 3 lined paper.

RIGHT HAND PACKET

  • Pages 5- 14 include square boxes such as horse/rider, girl/hair bush, girl / castle, pirate / ship
  • Pages 15-23 include circle shapes such as girl / book, teapot/teacup, frog/Lilypad, cookie/jar.

LEFT HAND PACKET:

  • Pages 25-34 square boxes such as horse/rider, girl/hair bush, girl / castle, pirate / ship
  • Pages 35-43 include circle shapes such as girl / book, teapot/teacup, frog/Lilypad, cookie/jar.

To adapt this:

•Cut out the boxes or circles smaller, so the student has less paper to cut.

•Use adaptive scissors

•Use verbal prompts (stop, and turn the paper).

NOTE: This includes ALL black and white visuals. There is NO color clipart.

This is perfect for RTI / MTSS as an intervention for scissors skills, and hand strength.This is great for visual scanning, visual perceptual skills, coordination, visual motor integration and fine motor. This is also a perfect activity for occupational therapists OT, teachers, speech pathologists SLP, special education SPED teachers and other school professionals while working on skills!

 

I am a school occupational therapist who has a doctorate in occupational therapy. I work closely with special education and general education staff adapting material. This is where I get my inspiration for this material. I have used my materials with a variety of children with different disabilities including learning disabilities, dyslexia, autism, sensory processing disorder, ADD, ADHD, visual impairments, deaf/hard of hearing, cerebral palsy, down syndrome and more.
